I had not known of this podcast before, but the host is friends with Allan Lavigne, the illustrator for my USO series (and active member of this website). Since 2004 Professor Fässler has headed the Advanced Materials Science elite study program, was dean of studies between 2007 and 2010 and has been elected a member of the board of the Wöhler Association for Inorganic Chemistry of the German Society of Chemists (GDCh) and has been its chairman from 2010 to 2014.

He was loved by many and will be missed every day.

He is survived by his wife Pamela Fessler; daughters, Rachel (John) Jennings, and Sarah (Justin) Friske; Four grandchildren, Madilyn Jennings, Thomas Jennings, Paige Friske, and Evelyn Friske; brother, Victor Fessler, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Mary Rita Fessler, brother Robert Fessler, sister Rita Jean Moser, and “brother from another mother” Fred Timmerman.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque and the Dubuque Food Pantry.
