Weltweit führt das Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) seit dreizehn Jahren in Folge die QS-Rangliste an.

Als beste österreichische Uni klassierte sich die Universität Wien auf Platz 152 (Vorjahr: 137), die Technische Universität (TU) Wien schaffte es mit Platz 197 (Vorjahr: 190) ebenfalls noch knapp unter die Top 200. Ebenfalls je fünf Prozent ergeben sich aus den Faktoren Nachhaltigkeit, Beschäftigungsergebnisse und internationale Forschungsvernetzung.

Das Abrutschen der österreichischen Unis ist vor allem auf die schlechteren Werte bei der Arbeitgeberbefragung zurückzuführen.

Zehn Prozent der Wertung ergeben sich aus dem Zahlenverhältnis Studierende – Lehrende, 20 Prozent aus der anhand von Zitierungen gemessenen Forschungsleistung und je fünf Prozent aus dem Anteil an internationalen Studenten bzw. Die gelisteten heimischen Universitäten haben zudem laut dem Ranking ihren Ruf bei Arbeitgebern und die Beschäftigungsfähigkeit ihrer Absolventinnen und Absolventen verbessert.

Die letzte gerankte heimische Uni ist die Universität Klagenfurt auf Platz 697.

Arbeitgeber gaben schlechtere Noten

Bei dem Ranking hängen 30 Prozent der Reihung von den Ergebnissen einer weltweiten Umfrage in der akademischen Gemeinschaft zum Ansehen von Hochschulen ab, weitere 15 Prozent von einer zusätzlichen Befragung unter Arbeitgebern.
